Perfect Victim by Christine McGuire

Amazon.com
Some may find it unbelievable that a 20-year-old Oregon woman could be enslaved by a sexual sadist for seven years--that even after being able to move freely during the day, she would allow him to lock her into a wooden box every night. Perhaps it's a minor failing of this book that the authors do not elaborate on the psychology that made her such a "perfect victim." In other respects, though, the story is well told, with an impressive accumulation of details: the woman's capture, the tortures she endured, the brainwashing techniques, the fiendish contraptions her captor constructed, the slave contract he made her sign, and the increasingly strained relations within the peculiar family that included master, slave, wife, and child, all inside a single-wide trailer. As well-known attorney and author Vincent Bugliosi writes, "A gripping and disturbing story of the secret life of apparently normal people. At once, horrific and engrossing."

Until the Bough Breaks by Christine McGuire

When a wealthy man is found with a .22-caliber slug in his brain, assistant D.A. Kathryn Mackay races to uncover the truth--and becomes the next target in a spiral of rage, recrimination, and explosive violence. This is the fourth thriller featuring Kathryn Mackay and Inspector David Granz.

Until Proven Guilty by Christine McGuire

In coastal Santa Rita, California, the horrifyingly similar murders of three women has the District Attorney's office reeling, and the rising political heat only adds to the juggling act of Assistant D.A. Kathryn Mackay -- a divorced mother determined to make her mark in a testosterone-driven field. But when she's tapped to lead the investigation, Mackay discovers that everyone has an agenda: the ratings-hungry TV newsman who knows more about the D.A.'s moves than any outsider should; the brilliant mind-hunter from the state capital, who's eager to apply his psychological profiling techniques; and the killer himself, who begins to send Mackay cryptic, taunting notes. "Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread man." And run she does -- after false leads and obscure clues, through a gauntlet of media and political pressure, into the dark tunnels of the killer's brain. As Mackay closes in, she must fight the suffocating fear that she's engaged in a deadly pas de deux with the killer, who's carefully stalking his fourth victim: her.

Until We Meet Again by Christine McGuire

New York Times bestselling author Christine McGuire packs her riveting legal thrillers with authentic details drawn from her career as a criminal prosecutor. Now McGuire, who "expertly builds suspense" (Publishers Weekly), brings back her savvy heroine, Assistant D.A. Kathryn Mackay, in a sensational new page-turner.
Hours after her beloved boss and mentor Harold Benton dies, Kathryn is thrust into her greatest challenge yet -- as the new District Attorney of Santa Rita County, California. Appointed unexpectedly, she is thrown into an explosive series of seemingly connected deaths. Two pregnant teenage girls have committed suicide, and the investigation quickly reveals other cases with disturbing connections. Immersed in political and personal hazards like never before, Kathryn is unprepared to do battle with her shrewd top deputy, who's running a media campaign against her for the upcoming election.
And if Kathryn isn't already overwhelmed with her frenzied career and role as a single mother of a young daughter, her love life heats up when a new man enters the picture. Walking a tightrope of deadly secrets and murderous betrayal, Kathryn must determine whom to trust -- before ore all that she holds dear is destroyed.

Until Death Do Us Part by Christine McGuire

Prosecuting a defendant who is charged with attempted murder by intentional infliction of HIV, deputy D.A. Kathryn Mackay begins a deadly race against time when a bomb explodes in the courtroom, a situation that is complicated by personal problems.

Until the Day They Die by Christine McGuire

When an infant gets snatched from her wealthy Santa Rita County home, Kathryn Mackay and her former lover, Detective David Granz, are called in to investigate. Supplied with few leads and almost no help from the family, Kathryn takes to the airwaves, broadcasting the story nationwide on Larry King Live. But when babies start disappearing from birthing centers and bedrooms all over the county, she soon realizes things are much more complex than they seem. As Kathryn and Dave work to uncover the conspiracy behind the crimes, a shocking call from halfway across the country reveals a plot more widespread than they ever imagined.
Filled with all the excitement and suspense of McGuire's previous page-turners, Until The Day They Die will keep you guessing until the very last page.
