Woody Allen Films

While you can't exactly call Woody Allen a versatile actor--he plays essentially the same character in all of his films--you can call him an outstanding comedian who conveys the tragedy of everyday life with humor and wit. With his neurotic and self-deprecating mannerisms, Allen creates a confessional style of comedy that blends satire, Jewish humor, and intelligence. His delivery is dry and his lines both unforgettable and dead-on. Allen started out writing for others and performing standup, until his first film in 1965, What's New, Pussycat? Since then he has starred primarily in his own films, plus notably voicing the lead in the animated film Antz. But to us, he'll remain that phobic schlemiel who can always make us laugh.
