Most well known for proffering a spoonful of sugar
and climbing every mountain, Julie
Andrews began her singing and acting career on a London stage
at the age of 12. Disappointed when she lost the film role of
Eliza Dolittle in My Fair Lady to Audrey Hepburn--a part Andrews
created on Broadway--she made her screen debut as the enchanting
nanny Mary Poppins, for which she won an Oscar. In 1981 Andrews
shocked filmgoers by shedding her goody-two-shoes image (and her
shirt) in husband Blake Edwards's film S.O.B., proving once and
for all that she's more than just a singing nun.
Julie Andrews films include The
Sound of Music
Mary Poppins
Victor/Victoria
The Americanization of Emily
Torn Curtain
Thoroughly Modern Millie
