The son of television pioneer Carl Reiner, Rob Reiner was immersed
early on in Your Show of Shows and The Dick Van Dyke Show. After
desultory guest shots on TV and small roles in a few movies, Reiner
the younger became a household name on All in the Family. Audiences
had no way of knowing about his more wickedly satiric streak,
though, until his 1984 mockumentary, This Is Spinal Tap. His follow-ups,
