Humayun Ahmed is one of the most famous contemporary
Bengali writers. He has been honored with Bangla Academy Award,
Shishu Academy Award and Ekushe Podok. He wrote several TV drama
serials and directed the movie Aguner Porosh Moni (Philosopher's
Stone of Fire). In 1995 this movie, based on 1971 Independence
War of Bangladesh, was selected as the best motion picture of
the year. Recently Japan's NHK created a documentary on him. He
is a former professor in Chemistry Department of Dhaka University,
Bangladesh.
